I have heard it said many times in my life that it's the small things that matter most. And for the most part, I have agreed with that. It's not always about seeing your baby walk for the first time, it could be more about seeing the time they discover their feet instead. The big things are important, but so are the small, and many of those small, lead us to the big.
I've recently realized that the idea of this works with dieting, exercise, healthy living, whatever...pretty much every aspect in life. I went into trying to improve my health with the attitude of being all gung ho and all or nothing. That did not last very long. I quickly went from all to nothing. Then I felt guilt about the nothing, so much so, that it created a negative attitude about the "all".
I have come to realize though that I don't have to get up at 4:00 a.m. to work out and forever be counting calories and stressing about what I put into my mouth. Instead, if I lift weights while watching tv, or do yoga at bedtime to relax from my day, those are small things that make a big difference. I don't have to go all organic, vegan, only eat green count every little calorie. Instead, cut down on what I eat, make better choices and get results. Granted it will take longer to lose that weight, but eventually it will go.
It is easier to create 1 small habit than it is to create 10 big ones, hell even one big one. But the small ones, add up, they roll into the big ones.
I can't deal with stressing and focusing on how many calories I eat, or did I work out for an hour yesterday, how many calories did I burn. I have too many other things on my plate to worry about. So instead, I'm focusing on the little things that will add up to a big thing. I've lost 7 pounds in the past week. Go me!
